
Charles "Chuck" Darby

Charles "Chuck" Darby, age 68, completed his earthly journey on Monday, November 4, 2024. Born on August 19, 1956, in Ft. Worth, Texas to Charles and Mary (Vaughan) Darby. Chuck married Jan Kirkland on May 14, 1977, and celebrated forty-seven years of marriage. They were blessed with two children, son, Samuel and daughter, Hannah: three grandchildren, Carson, Sadie and Sophie. He was a devoted leader, both spiritually and within his community.
Chuck graduated from the University of Texas in Arlington in 1981 with a bachelor’s degree in political science and minored in Sociology and Religion. He received a one-year accredited Biblical Study through the Rhema Bible School. He labored as a full-time pastor spanning forty years, during which he served in various churches across Texas and Oklahoma, dedicating thirty years to pastoring at Faith Christian Church. He and wife, Jan have been residents of McCurtain County and the Broken Bow Area for the past thirty-six years.
Beyond his pastoral duties, Chuck was deeply involved in his community. He served as the Mayor of Broken Bow from 1993 to 1997 and held positions on several boards including the E.T. Dunlap Higher Education Learning Center, Broken Bow Planning and Zoning Board, and McCurtain County EMS and E-911 Boards of Trustees and Broken Bow City Council. His commitment extended to numerous civic groups such as the Broken Bow Kiwanis Club, SOS for Families, and the McCurtain County Salvation Army Service Unit, Little Dixie Community Action Agency, Broken Bow Ministers Fellowship and Emergency Food and Shelter Program/United Way for McCurtain County. In 2017 he was appointed by Governor Mary Fallin to serve on the Oklahoma Water Resources Board. Chuck was currently serving on the Board of Directors for the Heartway Corporation.
He is preceded in death by his father, Charles Darby.
Chuck's faith and leadership were central to his life, particularly at Faith Christian Church, where he was a guiding light to many. Chuck had a great love for God, his family, friends and his community. His was a life of unconditional love and service to others. Upon moving from Texas to Broken Bow in 1985, Broken Bow became his true home. He loved this area and the people in it. Chuck loved being a Papa to his grandchildren and loved them well.
His legacy of service and compassion is remembered by his loving wife, Jan, his children, Samuel Darby and Hannah Darby; grandchildren, Carson, Sadie, and Sophia Darby; his mother, Mary (Vaughan) Darby; brother, Chris and Wendy Darby; sister, Charlynn and Joe Acklen; nieces, Jessica and Hailey; nephews, Joel and Chris Jr., other relatives and a multitude of friends and loving church family.
Graveside Services are set for 2:00 P.M., Sunday, November 10, 2024, at Broken Bow Cemetery, Broken Bow, OK with Brad Scott and Don Lester officiating.
